Jenelle Josh Goot Lunch photo Jenelle-Witty-at-Josh-Goot-Lunch_zps7800a0a5.jpg

On Friday I attended a luncheon with Josh Goot for Muse Boutique at the Scool Restaurant on Glenelg's foreshore.
A beautiful day, I quickly chose one of my favourite Josh Goot pieces to wear and brave the winter chill before running off to the workshop to check up on my Cabaret Festival construction. Beaming because my builds are looking AMAZING (I can not wait to share what we are making, it is HUGE- lookout Adelaide!), I raced down to Glenelg.

The Scool menu presented delicious food from chef Chris Jarmer to compliment a summery glass of Moët Ice Impérial. The Belgian Chocolate Mouse with Popping Candy was a definite favourite!
A bright, cheery room full of excited Adelaide fashion lovers, toting their prized Givenchy bags, chatted excitedly about their favourite Josh Goot seasons before tucking into lunch and the show.

As presented by Muse Boutique and The Style Set, models from Pride showcased stunning Josh Goot pieces from the current collections available in store along with an exclusive preview of AW13.
The Style Set is the online extension of Muse Boutique, established in 2005 by sisters Kristie and Amy Manuel. Their passion, innovation and commitment to exceptional service has led Muse Boutique to become one of Australia’s leading fashion stores. Indeed Muse Boutique is one of Adelaide's premiere boutiques, stocking Australian and International labels including Josh Goot.

The collections encapsulated the spirit of a modern woman, by being bold, dynamic and beautiful. Exquisite luxury fabrics are paired with digital graphic prints that somehow redefine classic prints such as leopard, cheetah, python, marble and more. Josh is known for taking sportswear shapes such as the racerback and creating covetable dresses that carry themselves across from day to night, casual to red carpet. His bomber jackets are second to none, and have fast become his most desired item. Styled with pencil skirts, the bomber becomes versatile enough to wear into the office, causing a statement amongst conservative coworkers (trust me on this one! Whatever, I am a designer, I can wear whatever I like. Go your own way!).
Josh spoke about the philosophy behind the brand, affirming that his design process is one with obvious consideration and depth.

Originally drawn towards communications, rather than fashion, Josh has found a way to communicate through the fashion medium. Telling a story through garment design, Josh commentates how we see ourselves as a culture today and tomorrow. Designing for the modern urban woman, Josh highlighted the importance of creating garments which give her an extra boost in confidence.

There is one thing I can say for certain, that in one of Josh's pieces I feel beyond confident. It is somehow like having your own armour, in the sense that in choosing one of Josh's pieces, you clearly communicate your personality to the world around you. People engage with you in Josh's pieces. I never fail to have people strike up a conversation with me about my clothing when I wear Josh Goot. Sometimes I have random people say something to me without even helping it, and later excusing themselves for interrupting me "But I had to say something! Wow."
Each Josh Goot design tells a story, engaging with the greater community.
Sometimes I don't need to say anything, I like my clothes to be considered, deliberate, and ultimately to speak for me. They become a second skin.

Anticipating a chilly day, I settled on wearing this black suede and wool fitted dress from one of Josh's Winter collections a few years ago. When I went over to say hello and meet Josh properly he commented that he'd thought "Nice dress" from the other side of the restaurant, but only realised once I was closer that it was one of his.
Somehow I think that is a job well done. :)

My picks from the presentation were the cheetah relaxed tee and marble-rose bomber.
The purple python dress also comes in a beautiful tee, which has my name all over it.
I actually have two outfit posts to share in which I styled one of Josh's Future Basic Foam racerback singlets two ways. These will be coming to the blog shortly, so keep an eye out.
More photos from the lunch are up on Instagram now, so make sure you are following.
A special thanks to Muse for allowing Adelaide to engage with one of Australia's leading designers.
xx Jenelle

As you all know I am a costume and set designer, so naturally I get pretty excited about period films. The team at Bazmark have once again managed to peak the interest of movie lovers around the world with the release of The Great Gatsby.
I am a huge fan of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel and the 1974 film by Jack Clayton with the divine Mia Farrow as Daisy, so I await the Australian release of Baz Lurhmann's new film with anticipation.
The film opens on the 30th of May, book yourselves in for a night of spectacle, glamour, drama and one of the greatest stories ever written. The irony of the American dream and that damn green light blinking across the water!
Also I am pretty excited to see Gemma Ward grace our screens in this film! Love that girl!
Keen for some little facts about the Costume of the film?

Swamped

 photo Back-Soon_zpsda066430.jpg

Hello, this is just a short and sweet post to let you know I am inundated with work and will be on a short hiatus.
This is my busiest time of the year as The Adelaide Cabaret Festival opens very soon, so I am swamped. I am
busily organizing final details, having my pieces built, art finished, final sourcing, and back to back meetings in order to bring together the seven entertainment venues, two pop up bars, pop up restaurant, pop up cafeteria and garden space, function space, Artist bar, corporate functions designs, costumes, props and set elements for various artists shows, Shane Warne The Musical, the Reg show, anniversary Gala, Cabaret Gala and more.
Yep. I have five outfit posts, a travel diary, and a ton of other material ready to be edited to share with you, but I am not sure when I will get a sec to get them up, so please bare with me. Trust me, once Cabaret etc are up, I'll have some REALLY cool stuff to share in the way of behind the scenes! :)

Follow me on instagram, facebook or twitter for regular behind the scenes updates, and of course pre-post images from the Josh Goot lunch on Friday (I am justifying going as I have not eaten a sit down meal in a week, and well, it's Josh Goot- just make it happen!), my adventures in Melbourne sourcing during Shane Warne rehearsals, and the odd launch coming up.

xx Nell

Oh and anyone following on Pinterest wondering why I have a Shane Warne board? Haha, it's the easiest way for the director to check in and see my reference images for the Shane Warne characters costumes/ hair/ makeup etc. I am not suddenly into cricket! :)

Lunch with Josh Goot

Everyone has a favourite. A designer that captures their imagination, inspires them with each new season, at times seem to know you better than you know yourself. Often I feel like Josh Goot knows things about me before I am fully aware of them. Namely, how I like to dress, and what I see myself wanting to live in in the coming year ahead.

This Friday, Josh Goot is the guest of honour at a luncheon hosted by Muse Boutique at Scool Eatery in Adelaide. Here, along with a beautiful meal, Josh will be previewing his Autumn Winter 2013 collection.
Hold the phone. I mean, hold the phone!

The genius of Australian luxury sportswear, Josh Goot has been capturing my attention since his debut collection at Australian Fashion Week in 2004. His early collections also captured attention in New York, where he showed for several seasons before showing in London in 2008. The brand has been stocked in big stores internationally, but the focus seems to be on building a strong Australian market.
Based in Sydney, Josh and his small team create luxurious covetable pieces, using beautiful quality textiles. Josh has pushed the boundaries in digital printing technology, creating stunning patterns inspired by the natural world, featuring clouds, tropical fish, coral reefs, lightning, flora, and more.

I was fortunate to attend a talk that Josh Goot had in Perth a few years ago, which gave me an incredible insight into the Australian fashion industry from the perspective of a new designer. I also liked that although dressed in a suit, Josh preferred to be barefoot. I think this natural, honest embrace of his own personality struck a chord.
My first Josh Goot pieces were from the earlier street wear collections. I collected a metallic knit racer back top, edged in orange, and a pale green racer back top which I still wear years later. I have since been collecting from my wish list whenever I can. As you well know from my outfit posts, I have a bit of a love affair with his collections and right now can not get enough of the neoprene future basic additions.
(That reminds me I have a few shoots to share with you... stay tuned!)
Why the Josh Goot brand? Well, I feel like his collections capture a modern edge, that is at once confident and sharp as it is comfortable and casual. The brilliant part is, I feel creative, polished, tailored, and happy in his clothes. These are not pieces to wear once and stash in the back of the closet, they are pieces to express your personality, and to live comfortably in.

So what are you doing this Friday???
All the details are here, call and book your spot, as places are limited but it is not too late!

Wearing: Josh Goot Blouse (similar here), ASOS Linen wrap skirt, Chloe Suzanna Studded Boots (available for pre-order in black with gold studs or in another fun colour here). Vivienne Westwood Bag

Sunshine! Blissful.
So you know how I mentioned in the last post that I packed really light, and well Yadda yadda... ?
I didn't bring conditioner. :(
Then the weather proceeded to be on the drizzly side, and I encountered a lot of frizzy flyaway business. Now, I wasn't going to a fashion parade, so in reality it didn't make one difference.
However, you can see it in all of the posts.
So, the lesson is, when packing, if the bottle is too big, what do we do?
Decant into a mini bottle and take the best of your beauty favourites with you.
With this in mind I decided to add some silly hair flicking photos into this post.
Including one of me flicking hair all over my face. So cool. :)

Let's move on. Truffles are pretty amazing, and we made a point of having lunch at the Wine and Truffle Farm. No pig sightings, but plenty of cows and geese.
The truffle topped lunches were delicious, as was the red blend we got to match.
If you are a fan, or need a good lunch while down Pemberton way, I highly recommend it.
This linen wrap skirt from ASOS is the best thing right now. It is only $30 and I am hands down tempted to get the white one too. So good!
I had my eye on this monochrome Josh Goot blouse for years, since it's runway debut, but finding it took me a labour of love. Having an inspiration folder on my desktop, or adding something to my 'Wanted' Pinterest board keeps me focused so that I don't waste money on items. In theory. I currently have one over stuffed rack of clothes that I have to sell, which proves that buying something because it is on sale, is an easy way to accumulate pieces that hang around unworn.
New leaf?

A couple of weeks ago I visited Perth, mostly to spend time with a certain someone before Cabaret took over all of my time/ he went overseas. I chose not to tell many people I was going, knowing full well that I would not have time to see anyone, and I felt really bad to go all that way and then not have any time. So, a sneaky quick trip.
We went down south to Pemberton, chosen because it is beautiful, quiet, there are giant trees to climb, forests to walk through and cute little spots to stay in. I had been there once before and couldn't wait to go again. I should mention that I LOVE climbing trees!
These shots were taken at the Pemberton train/ tram station, where we lost the light very quickly for a beautiful sunset.

This borrowed t-shirt is a little but tongue in cheek for a few reasons, and makes me smile.
I must admit to spending a fair chunk of my school holidays growing up playing Super Mario on the Super Nintendo, usually as Princess Peach. They really are brilliant games.
I wear this vintage linen boxy blazer all the time, I picked it up about five years ago at a 'buy my stuff so I can go overseas sale' a friend of mine put on, along with another jacket I treasure and wear endlessly. This thing I can throw over anything, I love the cut, length and fabric. I actually would be LOST without it. Since for the trip I only had carry on, this, black jeans, a grey marle tee, and a good knit jumper where my starting points.
I was happy to learn I could pack for what turned out to be almost a week (after I had my flight canceled and ended up stuck for an extra day) in carry on, in Autumn easily. I may actually do a capsule wardrobe post to share how.
I have more photos to come. I am REALLY sorry to the people I love in Perth who I did not get to see this time. It does NOT in anyway reflect that I love you any less.

Perhaps this is going to become a regular thing... my reposting the amazing editorials shot for Wildfox as their lookbook campaigns. This new campaign, 'Into the Wild' Daydream pre-fall13 is pretty, takes me back to childhood days spent camping and hiking. Actually even some of the clothes have a 90's feel to them which I probably wore. I do remember a particular favourite long cream wool knit jumper, long socks, vintage highwaist trousers and leather satchels. There were always moments spent daydreaming, reading, cooking, climbing, drawing on these camping trips, I have probably romanticised them a lot. It looks like I am not alone though, as these images prove.
There are more up on the Wildfox blog here...
